Of course, Florida is more than sunny skies, warm beaches and pleasant weather; there are a lot of things to see when you are visiting the state as well. For those who are interested in coming for a visit as well as for those who live here and want something to do, the following are some of the items that should not be missed.

History – When it comes to history, Florida has plenty to offer. When most people think about Florida history, they automatically think of St. Augustine and the Spanish influence but the fact of the matter is, there are many historical monuments in Florida as well. It was inhabited thousands of years before the Spanish settlers arrived, and the more you dig into the history of it, the more there is to learn.

Key Lime Pie – Although you can purchase a key lime pie in other areas, if you want the real McCoy, you will have to come to Florida. If you’re looking for the most authentic key lime pie, head to the southernmost point of the United States in Key West. The key lime tree first arrived in the area in the 1500s and since that time, it has made some of the most delicious pies in the world.

Theme parks – It doesn’t matter if you are a child or if you are a senior citizen, there is something to enjoy with the Florida theme parks. Some people may consider Busch Gardens in Tampa, Florida, but don’t forget the grandfather of all theme parks, Walt Disney World. You could spend a considerable amount of time park hopping in the area.

Some people come to Florida for a visit on an annual basis, and there are also snowbirds, who visit the state a few months out of the year. If you plan on making a visit, however, you should plan on falling in love with the state and you may end up wanting to stay permanently.
